Hays are excited to be partnering with one of New Zealand's leading commercial and public law firms. They provide comprehensive legal services to both public and private companies, focusing on collaboration and strategic, commercial advice. They are looking for an Accounts Assistant to join the team on a 10-month contract.
Your new role
The principal purpose of the role is to provide transaction and settlement services and accounts support for all the offices based across New Zealand.
- General accounts duties – assisting the Auckland Accounts Team
- To ensure that any transactions and settlements are completed in a timely, accurate and compliant manner
- To ensure that the firm's trust and office accounts are not overdrawn
- Communicate effectively with Partners, Staff and clients regarding account matters including transactions, billing enquiries, maintaining charge out rates and assisting fee earners and secretaries with general enquiries
- Assist with processing of Interest Bearing Deposits. Actioning the deposits, withdrawals and closing interest.
- Prepare disbursement payments in accordance with firm policies
- Complete foreign currency transactions
- Maintaining at all times a professional service-oriented approach in providing assistance to solicitors, management and clients of the firm
- Assist the AML/CFT officer with compliance processing and queries as required
- Various other ad hoc duties as delegated from time to time, including covering duties when team members are on leave and providing assistance to other accounts staff in other offices.
What you'll need to succeed
The skills we are seeking include experience and competence in processing high-value banking transactions, knowledge of computerised accounting systems, reconciliation and banking transactions. Previous experience working in finance, banking and in a legal office with trust account knowledge would also be beneficial. Also:
- Strong attention to detail, including good computer, numeracy, spelling and grammar skills
- Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy
- Effective communicator in verbal and written correspondence
- Analytical thinker, problem solver
- Able to work well under pressure and to prioritise tasks
- Resourcefulness, show initiative and be proactive
