The NZ Society of Conveyancers represents, promotes and regulates the conveyancing profession. They are the professional body representing practitioners in this field.

The Society is seeking a Complaints Service Officer to join the organisation and manage its Complaints Service. The position is an administrative one and the current holder, who is retiring, works from a home base. The primary function is to follow up on complaints received regarding conveyancing practitioners primarily from the public but also from other sources.

The position liaises with the complaints service administration officer and the chairperson and members of the Standards Committee, who determine the outcome of a complaint. From time to time there may also be communication with the Board of the Society.

The procedures to be followed are laid down in the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006 and other supporting legislation.

Tō tūranga hou | Your new role

• To review any complaint that is received by the Society and ensure it is in the required format with any supporting documentation. Provide reasonable assistance to any person in making a complaint.

• Act as secretariat to the Standards Committee in organising Zoom meetings and following up on their behalf with any ongoing matters arising from their discussions and communicating their decisions to all parties concerned.

• Follow up on any decisions made by the Standards Committee at a final hearing determination to ensure they have been complied with.

• Liaise with the Legal Complaints Review Officer in relation to any appeal of decisions made by the Standards Committee which have been referred to them and act on any determinations from them.

• Represent the NZSOC in all dealings with complainants, respondents, Standards Committee members, LCRO and any other outside parties.

•Undertake any other work which the Board or Council or their delegated representative might request.

  • Experience in Secretariat roles within either the private or public sector.
  • A background in the legal or auditing profession would be useful.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in using board document management software solutions.

The work involved is on an as-and-when-required basis and hours can vary depending on when a complaint is received and how many are ongoing at any point in time.

The role would suit someone who is just looking for some part time work and is open and available to be called upon when needed.
