Our client is a leading forestry management company based in Rotorua and are committed to maintaining the highest standards of health and safety in their operations. They are seeking a dedicated and experienced Health and Safety Specialist to join their OH&S team based from their head office in Rotorua.
Your new role
Reporting to the OH&S Manager, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of employees and contractors within your portfolio with key responsibilities including:
- Manage health and safety risks with effective strategies
- Implement and regularly review existing OHS policies, standards, procedures, and work instructions
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with regulations
- Advocate a 'Partnering' culture by building strong relationships across the business and become a trusted thought partner for leaders
- Provide training and support to employees on health and safety practices
- Investigate incidents and accidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Develop, report and present OHS performance data to management and operational teams
- Stay up-to-date with industry regulations and best practices
What you'll need to succeed
With a passion for health and safety, and the wellbeing of all people, you'll be:
- Tertiary qualified in OH&S and a qualified incident investigator or have extensive experience in OH&S in a high risk industry, with a minimum of 5 years experience in an OH&S role, preferably within the forestry or agricultural industry.
- Possess a deep knowledge of health, safety and environmental best practices, legislation and regulations and have the ability to apply risk-assessment frameworks in high-risk operations
- Excellent communication skills and the proven ability to build strong, trusting relationships and be able to work proactively with people across all levels. You'll also have the ability to influence, train and coach employees and contractors to achieve positive outcomes.
- Problem-solving and solution-focused approach
- Data and trend analysis skills along with presentation and report writing skills.
- The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
This role covers a wide regional portfolio and requires someone comfortable travelling.
